Welcome to this website and please schedule your appointment if you are a parent of a child or adolescent who is not achieving and continues to struggle academically and/or socially.


You may have spent a lot of time looking for answers and feel dissatisfied with the support you have received so far. You may feel angry and powerless.

Dr. Kloots believes that your child is best served in the school environment with an outside consultant when he or she is not responding to school  interventions, when a Revision IEP is likely to be necessary, or when you feel the school has tried to solve your concerns without resolution.

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is based on the idea that our thoughts influence our feelings and interpretation of our experiences and beliefs, which shapes our actions.  


CBT represents two interacting perspectives (cognitive and behavioral), which can be used separately or in combination to develop interventions. We can challenge  cognitive issues with cognitive therapy techniques when they interfere with an individual's happiness, work on behavioral issues with behavior therapy interventions, or plan to work on both at the same time.


Consultation  based on CBT can be very useful and helpful for psychoeducational problem-solving because it is based on a collaborative team approach. The service providers of your child in the natural school environment will be partners of Dr. Kloots, the CBT consultant, when she is working on your child's school program.

Based on many years of experience with IEP development as a school psychologist and special education teacher in the public school system, Dr. Kloots would be able to support you by creating a better match of  interventions to your child's special needs.


She may be able to help clients asking and articulating the right question which may directly lead to the answer to solve the problem.

If not, the question may serve as a hypothesis of which issues may be related to the child's problem.  In that case, a more comprehensive case conceptualization (assessment) may need to be done.
